About 'A Black Country Forge'

Despite de-industrialisation, there are still many commercial forges in the Black Country. This working environment remains physically challenging, and potentially dangerous for the inexperienced. Companies find it very difficult to recruit young workers into a job that is difficult, dirty, and physically exhausting, and thus, most of the workers are older.

This series attempts to illustrate work that would seem to be, in some respects, a leftover of the Victorian Age. The images show the camaraderie between the workers, something that is essential for making their working day possible and palatable.
